PSE is thrilled to bring you our latest sound effects library: Alan Howarth Collection. Available now, this diverse and high-quality library has been curated from the personal archive of the legendary sound artist behind countless iconic films from the 1980s, ‘90s, and beyond.
Howarth’s distinguished career began with his groundbreaking sound design work on Star Trek: The Motion Picture and continued through all six original Star Trek films, as well as sound effects credits on iconic films including Raiders of the Lost Ark, Dracula, and Poltergeist. A frequent collaborator of director John Carpenter, Howarth’s musical contributions can be heard on genre classics like Halloween 2-6, Escape From New York, and They Live. From sci-fi soundscapes to big-screen action and sweeping cinematic scores, Howarth’s creativity knows no bounds. “Sound is music; music is sound,” he says. “In reality, it’s all the same to me.”
To bring you the sounds that inspired these unforgettable movie moments, the PSE Library Development team meticulously categorized, digitized, and restored hundreds of tapes from Howarth’s personal collection. The result is a wide-ranging assortment of sound effects including original sound design by Howarth as well as various ambiences, Foley, weapons, machines, animals, and much more. “These are sounds that are now classic,” says Howarth. “They’ve been used in famous movies, so they’re little nuggets of gold that can now be used to create more gems.”
