PSE is now inside Avid Media Composer. Here's what that means for editors.
If you edit in Avid Media Composer, you no longer have to leave your timeline to find professional sound effects. As of today, Pro Sound Effects is the first and only sound effects platform to offer a native panel integration for Media Composer, and we're announcing it at NAB 2026.
Inside the Integration
The PSE panel lives directly inside Media Composer, giving editors access to our library of over 1.2 million professionally recorded sounds without switching windows or breaking focus. Built on Avid's Media Composer Panel SDK, it's designed to fit into how post-production teams actually work — from early temp edits all the way through final picture lock.
It also connects to SoundQ, PSE's free desktop app, so teams can browse and search their own internal SFX libraries stored on local, network, or cloud storage (including Avid Nexis), and pull sounds directly into Media Composer bins with metadata intact.

Instantly access your favorite PSE sounds without leaving the Media Composer interface.
Why This Matters for Media Professionals
Sound effects touch every frame of a project, but hunting for them has always meant context-switching — out of the timeline, into a browser or separate app, then back again. For teams on tight deadlines in scripted television, feature film, or streaming, that friction adds up. This integration removes it.
"Sound effects are integral to every media production project — they need to be quick and easy to access," said Bradford Swanson, Head of Product at Pro Sound Effects. "We're proud to be the first sound effects platform to offer this tight integration with Avid Media Composer.”
“It is great to see that Avid Media Composer editors have, for the first time, access from within the editor to a massive library of professional sound effects at their fingertips with the new Pro Sound Effects extension,” said Ray Thompson, Senior Director of Worldwide Partners and Alliances at Avid. “Editors now can drive greater efficiency and have more creative flexibility by leveraging PSE in the editor, allowing them to stay creative with a deep sonic toolset covering categories from A to Z.”

Ensure that every editor has access to fully-licensed sounds with metadata preserved.
