Our latest update to SoundQ introduces Watched Folders, a powerful new way to connect and manage your entire sound library across local, cloud, and network storage.
SoundQ is our free desktop app that helps you find sounds faster, organize your local library for quick search, access the PSE library in the cloud, and drop sounds right onto the timeline in your editor of choice. We’re constantly improving SoundQ with your feedback, and every update brings new features to speed up your workflow and help you manage your sound effects library.
Whether you’re working solo or as part of a team, SoundQ can now automatically track updates, additions, and changes to your folders so your sound effects and metadata are always up to date, and can stay coordinated across multiple users.
With Watched Folders, you can create a System Collection associated with your own local, cloud or NAS storage, and SoundQ can automatically monitor your connected storage, detect any changes, and updates your local database accordingly. You can add, delete, or modify audio files within that media storage using an external audio editor or another library tool, and SoundQ will instantly recognize the update – no need to manually reimport or rescan your folders.
It’s a huge time-saver for sound designers who already have large, organized libraries on local drives, NAS, or cloud platforms. Just connect the parent folder once as a Watched Folder within your System Collections, and SoundQ handles the rest.
Getting started is simple:
SoundQ will immediately begin monitoring that folder for new, deleted, or modified files.
Teams working from shared storage like NAS systems or mountable cloud resources (e.g., S3, LucidLink, Dropbox) can now import those shared folders directly into SoundQ. Each user gains access to the same libraries, updated in real time.
SoundQ respects your storage-level permissions, meaning admins can define read/write access at the storage provider level, and SoundQ will automatically honor those settings. No more accidental edits or complicated setup – just seamless collaboration.
Teams can also create custom collections within shared storage that include rendered changes like pitch, volume, direction, selection, and fades – keeping creative intent and versioning intact across the whole team.
Even if you’re working solo, Watched Folders make it easier to manage your personal sound library across multiple platforms.
Connect your drives, NAS, or cloud folders and SoundQ will automatically track every change. Edit a file in your DAW, add new sounds, or reorganize folders, and SoundQ stays in sync automatically. You can even use Watched Folders alongside other sound librarian tools like Soundminer, Basehead, or your own custom systems so everything in your workflow stays connected.
For years, sound designers have had to choose between flexibility and control – manually managing libraries, syncing folders, or constantly reimporting updates. Watched Folders changes that.
Now, SoundQ acts as the hub for your entire ecosystem. For local, network, and cloud folders alike, everything stays consistent, accessible, and in sync.
