Before the 1961 season, NFL players were expected to be two-way players—that's offense AND defense! That's pretty tough. But then again, before 1906 (when President Teddy Roosevelt had to convince universities to change the rules of American Football) gang tackling was still allowed, forward passing was illegal, and the distance for a first down was five yards instead of ten.
