0:00 - CORE 6 Overview
Matt Yocum introduces himself and discusses some of the changes introduced in CORE 6. The three available bundle tiers are Standard, Pro, and Complete; and all of these can be purchased with a perpetual license or subscription.

CORE 6 includes 22 new libraries, more than 110,000 new sounds, and more than 27,000 new files. New libraries include Charged: Arcs and Zaps, Gyroscope, Porsche 911 Carrera, Detonate Vol. 2, King Collection Vol. 3, Wind Chimes, Gen Collection Vol. 6, and more.

2:11 - Custom Plans for Teams
“Pro Sound Effects will work directly with your organization or company to help make sure that your sound solution needs are met,” says Matt. PSE Teams plans include cost-effective multi-seat licensing, library updates to keep fresh sounds coming, and ultra-detailed metadata to help speed up your workflow.

3:01 - Cheers & Chatter
Matt begins the demo by taking a look at Cheers & Chatter. “I can’t tell you how many times you need to find different reactions from crowds; whether it’s applause, cheers, boos, laughter, or all the rest,” he says.

Matt previews a range of crowd sounds including stadium cheers, concert crowd applause, real-world walla, laughter from a comedy club, conversations, and children’s laughter. “I like that there’s specific language as well as walla-type stuff in here,” he comments. “It’s nice that you’ve got the flexibility.”

6:55 - Detonate Vol. 2
Next, Matt takes a look at the explosion sound effects in Detonate Vol. 2 by Mark Mangini (Dune). He plays several different examples, including massive thundering booms, distant echoing blasts, muted thuds, and smaller explosions.

“I like how there’s several different textures in here,” Matt points out. “Some of them are a little more distant and chunky; some of them have got nice reverb and echo slap to them. The fact that they’re all multichannel is awesome.” (The entire library consists of immersive surround files).

8:30 - King Collection Vol. 3
Next up is King Collection Vol. 3, a general library by Richard King (Oppenheimer). First, Matt clicks through a selection of airy sounds, pointing out their character and usefulness in sci-fi sound design.

Next, Matt samples the alarm sound effects, walla, ambiences, and a variety of animals. He uses SoundQ’s variable speed control to slow down recordings of chickens and parakeets, demonstrating how to manipulate common sounds for experimental sound design.

12:59 - King Collection: Vehicles
Matt then moves on to King Collection: Vehicles, which includes detailed recordings of a vintage Ford Model A, Lincoln Town Car, Ford Taurus, Cadillac DeVille, VW Beetle, tractor, and a detailed workup of a military Humvee.

“There’s so many options here,” says Matt as he listens to a 2007 Nissan Altima sound effect. “It’s so often the case that you’ll get libraries with a really cool assortment of vehicles, but sometimes we just need regular, ‘normal’ cars to cut with.”

16:01 - Wreckage
Wreckage is another new library from Richard King full of demolition sound effects, impacts, and debris. “I can always use more debris,” Matt says as he auditions a variety of glass breaks, splintering wood, and construction site recordings.

Wreckage also includes elaborate multi-perspective recordings including a house demolition, vehicles being crushed and torn apart, and even the destruction of an airplane fuselage. “There’s a ton of material here,” Matt says. “This is a huge library.”

19:25 - Wind Chimes
Before wrapping up, Matt showcases a huge library of wind chimes recorded by Mike James Gallagher. Matt listens to a variety of different-sounding chimes made of wood, scrap metal, sea shells, traditional pitched metal chimes, and shimmering glass.

“Such an awesome, huge array of different textures and qualities,” Matt remarks. “I’m absolutely going to be reaching for this stuff.” He mentions a few different uses for the library, such as magical sound design and adding character to backgrounds. All chimes were recorded at 192 kHz from multiple perspectives, including an ultrasonic mic.

21:27 - Conclusion
“It’s gonna take me days and days to get through the rest of this,” says Matt, “but that’s the beautiful thing about having these different CORE bundles at your disposal, whether you’re purchasing them outright or subscribing on a month-to-month basis. You’ve got these huge libraries at your disposal so that for anything you need, you’ve got a fresh palette ready to go. The options here are pretty much limitless.”
